It's 2017 and you're not seeing things - we really are back with a new blog post and a new podcast! You can listen to week 1 here.
Here's what's happening for week 1 of 2017:
Monday, January 2 - Cream Puff Day
Tuesday, January 3 - Festival of Sleep Day
As promised in the podcast, here's Tara's new pillow that you just had to see!
Wednesday, January 4 - Spaghetti Day and Trivia Day
Thursday, January 5 - Whipped Cream Day
Regular whipped cream recipe:
Ingredients- 1 cup heavy cream, 1/3 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract.
Instructions- Put all ingredients in a stand mixer, beat on high until soft peaks form, about 3 minutes.
Alcoholic whipped cream recipe: add 2 tbls of your fav vodka or liquor to the above before mixing all ingredients!
Friday, January 6 - Shortbread Day
Traditional Shortbread Recipe :
Ingredients- 2/3 cup softened butter, 1/4 cup ground rice, 1/3+ cup caster (superfine) sugar, 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 300°F
2. Grease and flour baking sheet
3. Mix butter and sugar until creamy/fluffy
4. Add flour and ground rice and form into a dough
5. Form dough into a ball
6. Flour surface, dough and your hands and knead into a flat, round shape
7. Adding more flour roll the dough into a round with a rolling pin
8. Place the dough on baking sheet
9.With a wooden spoon handle, make indents around the edges
10. Score the dough into 8 segments with a sharp knife
11. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden at the edges but soft in the middle
12. Cut the dough into segments
13. Allow to cool for 10 minutes and dust with reserved sugar
14. Serve warm or cooled

Sunday, January 8 - Earth Rotation Day
The National Air and Space Museum has a free "Daytime astronomy at the Public Observatory" from noon to 3pm. You can view it live at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/smithsonian-public-observatory-project
